Azerbaijan Airlines services to Italy

Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) is a major carrier and one of the leaders of CIS countries aviation community. The total route network of the airline is 40 destination in 19 countries. In 2014, AZAL transported more than 1,8 million people.
In June 2015, AZAL received “4 Stars” from British consulting company Skytrax. Azerbaijani national carrier was also nominated for the “World Airline awards” in the global category “World Airline that achieved most progress”, taking the second place of honour.
AZAL is a member of the International Air Transport Association (IATA).

Fleet

AZAL fleet currently consist of 28 aircraft: 5 Airbus A319, 8 Airbus A320, 2 Airbus A340-500, 4 Boeing 757-200, 2 Boeing 767-300ER, 2 Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, 1 Embraer 170 and 4 Embraer 190.

New class of elite services on Airbus A340-500 and Boeing 787 Dreamliner

From 10th July, AZAL has introduced a new class of elite passenger service on a number of flight: the Business Luxe class.
Business Luxe class provides a higher standard of services on board, which is due to use of state-of-the-art technologies and achievements in the field of aviation service.
Passengers who choose the new class of service will have some advantages in addition to the traditional Business Class services: expanded menu of hot meals, soft drinks and alcoholic drinks, special travel sets, pyjamas on long-haul flights, gifts for children.
Passengers of AZAL flagship airplanes as Airbus A340-500 and Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, flying to New York, London and Beijing will first have the new flight class available.

First European Games at Baku – Azerbaijan Airlines Airbus A340-500 at Milan Malpensa Airport

From 12th to 28th June, Baku hosted the 2015 European Games; 280,405 passengers (228,182 from international flight and 52,223 from domestic flights) transited at Heydar Aliyev International Airport.
According to official data, over 28,000 foreigners visited Azerbaijan during the 2015 European Games. The majority of the foreigners who obtained tickets to watch the European Games were the citizens of Russia, UK, Germany, the Netherlands, Italy, Switzerland, Spain, the US and the United Arab Emirates.
Over 6,000 athletes from 49 countries participated at the Baku 2015 European Games.
Last 29th June, AZAL operated the service to Milan Malpensa with a 237-seater Airbus A340-500, the mid-sized jetliner of Airbus A340 family, instead of a 156-seater Airbus A320 that usually operates the flight (cover photo). The airline switched to the twin-aisle wide-body aircraft due to the higher load factor.
MXPhotos had the rare opportunity to take a look to the cabin configuration of AZAL Airbus flagship at Milan Malpensa.

Cabin layout

The Airbus A340-500 is the A340 family mid-sized jetliner; the fuselage measures 67,93 m from nose to tail; the fuselage cross-section is 222 in (5,64 m) wide.
AZAL A340-500 features 237 seats in a 2-class configuration: 36 Business Class seats and 201 Economy Class seats.

Business Class

The Business Class cabin has 36 fully-flat seats in a 2-2-2 layout. Each seat has vibrating massage functions and lumbar support with a touchscreen control on the armrest, a 17 in (43,18 cm) screen with IFE remote in the side of the seat, mirrored privacy screen, in-seat power and USB connectors, personal reading light and mood lighting.
A lounge area with leather sofas on each side and a bar in the middle with three stools is located between row 4 and row 5.

Economy Class

The Economy Class cabin has 201 seats in a 2-4-2 layout. The seat pitch measures 34 in (86,36 cm). Each seat has an individual 10,2 in (25,91 cm) screen with IFE remote in the armrest, in-seat power and mood lighting.

Flight deck

The Airbus A340-500 flight deck has a high degree of commonality with Airbus twin-aisle jetliner as A330’s and A340’s; it features Airbus common two crew flight deck, with some improvements as LCD displays and modernised avionic systems.

Cargolux Italia launches Milan Malpensa-Zhengzhou route

Cargolux Italia has started a weekly freighter service from Milan Malpensa to Zhengzhou, the Chinese hub of Cargolux Airlines – The schedule calls for flights every Saturday on the routing Malpensa-Novosibirsk-Zhengzhou-Novosibirsk-Malpensa – Stop in Novosibirsk marks the first commercial Cargolux service to Russia
